10:00am-12:00pm: Saturday Art Workshop at Kreeger Museum

Using items that remind us of spring – eggs, flowers, and feathers – students paint and create works of art that celebrate the changing of the seasons.  Experiment and explore the possibilities of everyday materials as they become painting tools for small hands. Kids in the Kitchen is an annual spring event that showcases ways kids can eat smart and make healthy lifestyle choices. Targeted to children ages 3-13, local chefs host healthy cooking demonstrations, fitness experts lead high-energy exercise sessions and certified nutritionists are on hand to answer questions. Kids in the Kitchen is a fun-filled day of games, crafts, hands-on learning, and exciting prizes – all to celebrate and promote nutritional literacy. Registration is required.

11:30am-3:00pm: Cherry Blossom Celebration at American Art Museum

Join SAAM for a celebration of Japanese culture and the arrival of the cherry blossoms! A taiko drumming performance kicks off the afternoon, followed by other traditional Japanese music and dance, face painting, and cherry-blossom themed crafts. Colleagues from the Freer|Sackler can help you make your own Japanese fan. Create a koinobori windsock at one of our crafting tables or check out the spring book corner with our friends from MLK Jr. Memorial Library. Click above link for full performance schedule.

12:00pm-3:00pm: Family Afternoon: Newspaper Fort Challenge at National Building Museum

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Museum is hosting a newspaper fort challenge in the Great Hall! Bring your family and collaboratively construct an awe-inspiring fort made entirely of newspapers and tape. Learn about the triangle, the strongest shape out there, and create tetrahedral caverns small enough for one, or big enough for your clan. This event does not require an RSVP. Free, drop-in, all ages welcome.
