The Enchantment of Spring at Synetic Theater: April 11-15, 9am – 3pm
(Arlington, VA)
Explore the hidden world around you in this week-long nature adventure! Join Synetic Theater for a week-long exploration camp through the hidden and magical worlds of Enchantment. Based on the popular children’s movie Encanto, this camp will give students the opportunity to find their magical ‘gift’ and use it to save the world! With an emphasis on creative and active play, students will work with Synetic Teaching artists to see the world in a whole new way. This camp will take place both indoors and outdoors and will include wacky experiments, a lot of games, and a focus on physical movement. We don’t talk about … how much fun this camp will be – you’ll need to see for yourself! Day-by-day and full-week options are available! Rising 1st Grade – 8th Grade

Urban Adventure Squad: April 11-15, 8:45am-3pm
(Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens)
Junior Ranger Adventure Squad is a creative partnership between Urban Adventure Squad and Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens with the goal to create meaningful connections to local National Parks and foster a lifelong love of environmental stewardship in students here in Washington, DC. Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, a historic National Park Service site located along the Anacostia River, is where we will spend our days hiking, exploring, learning, picnicking, and playing. This special Junior Ranger Adventure Squad programming is made possible thanks to scholarship funding provided by Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens who are deeply invested in our Ward 7 neighborhood.

DC Department of Parks and Recreation: April 11-14, 2022, 9am-4pm
(Arthur Capper, Deanwood, Ferebee-Hope, Fort Davis, Jelleff, Palisades, Raymond, Rosedale, Turkey Thicket)
The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers a full-day camping option for 3-5 year-olds and 6-12 year-olds during the DC Public Schools (DCPS) spring break. The overarching theme for the camps will incorporate DPR’s “Move, Grow, and Be Green” philosophy, as we plant the seeds of personal development.

Homerun Baseball: April 11-15, 2022, 8:30am-2:30pm

Players can expect a positive mental attitude environment featuring long round of ground balls, batting practice and two games a day. Our motto is “Talent is What You Have, Effort is What You Give”.

HoopED: April 11-15, 2022, 9am-3pm

Spring Break Camps are the best way for kids to see their friends, stay active and avoid “break boredom”! See you on the courts and playground!

DC Way: April 11-15, 2022, 9am-3pm
(Tyler Elementary School & The RFK Fields)

Where to spend President’s Day in and around Washington, DC

February 16, 2022

This year President’s Day coincides with DCPS mid-winter break. We’ve got some great camps to occupy your Bambinos if you can’t take off work when they are off school. We also have a round-up of 16 ways to explore Washington, DC which always comes in handy.

Monday, February 21, 2022:

8:00am-5:00pm: Washington’s Birthday Celebration at Mt. Vernon
Celebrate the first President on the most exciting day of the year for FREE or pay admission any other day, children under 5 are free! Story time, character performances, card making, birthday cake and more. See link above for a complete list of the day’s events! Also, taking place Tuesday, Feb 22: 9:00am to 4:00pm.

9:00am-5:00pm: National Museum of the United States Army
Discover techniques used by the U.S. Army’s first spymaster: George Washington. Winning the Revolutionary War took cunning as well as courage. He built a robust spy network to learn about the enemy’s plans and best thwart them. Children ages 4-12 are invited to experiment with codes, secret writing, and spy techniques at the Experiential Learning Center. Participation is free and included with a general admission ticket.

9:30am: Harambe at BloomBars
Ten years and more than 1,600 shows later, Harambee at BloomBars has become a Washington DC institution and a cultural/moral compass for thousands of parents and youth. In Swahili, Harambe means “All pull together.” At BloomBars, Harambe is the practice of hope, possibility and compassion – basically, all the things that happen when we all come together. Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community. With more than 10 years of experience in youth development, education and conflict resolution, program instructor Baba Ras D’s “Harambee” is a morning jolt of inspiration for parents, caregivers and children.

10:00am-5:30pm: National Museum of American History
Check out the American Presidency exhibit, The First Ladies contributions, George Washington sculpture, Star Spangled flag and anthem that plays on the second floor and more. Be sure to visit the kids Spark!Lab where they will become inventors.

11:30am: Disney on Ice
Grab your Mickey ears and get ready for non-stop fun when 50 of your favorite Disney friends come to life through world-class ice skating.

1:00pm-3:00pm: George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria

Guide to 2022 summer camps in the Washington, DC Metro area

January 26, 2022

We are grateful to our 2022 summer camp partners; Camp Arena Stage, Red Panda Art Studio, Pedalheads and Imagination Stage. Registrations have started at most camps so enjoy finding the one best for your Bambino and register soon. We have noted if there are any camps that will be virtual or hybrid this summer.

Camp Arena Stage is the official sponsor of this 2022 summer camp guide.

Camp Arena Stage is where community and art make magic! This summer, Camp Arena Stage returns in person to the campus of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School for 2- and 3-week sessions beginning in July. Campers ages 8 to 16 choose their own schedules from activities in theater, music, visual arts, dance, filmmaking, writing and more, such as acting for the camera, hip-hop dance, musical theater, publishing the Camp Arena Stage newspaper, filming movie trailers and painting – all taught by professional artists and educators.

The skilled staff at Camp Arena Stage is dedicated to seeing, recognizing and appreciating each individual for who they are and the art only they can make. It’s the perfect place to try something for the first time or take current skills to the next level.

At the daily Noontime Show, campers can share their art as an individual, group or class. Whether it’s a musical theater song, an original hip-hop dance, a trumpet solo, hula hooping or showing a Lego creation, campers can expect the most supportive audience ever! If your young artist doesn’t love the spotlight, that’s okay too. No one has to perform at Camp Arena Stage. There are many ways to be an artist.

Campers and staff alike enjoy Camp Arena Stage because it brings together a diverse group of people who share a love of the arts to create a joyful community – hear what they have to say. Visit the Camp Arena Stage website to learn more and register today!

Don’t break your back – let the folks at Pedalheads help your kids learn to ride a bike! One of the more unique summer camps you will find, this week-long day camp specializes in helping kids as young as 3 get off training wheels and ride on their own – often within one week!

Helping even the most tentative of kids, Pedalheads will focus on safety, fun, and skills. More than anything, they want to build confidence and a love of biking within their campers! For those with kids already riding on two wheels, Pedalheads also offers advanced levels that focus on road riding skills and safety. Camp options include half-day, all-day, and 1.5-hr tots level programs.

In the time of COVID-19, try a camp that is inherently safer and lower risk as they operate outdoors with lots of open space. They also have various protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of all camp participants. Let Pedalheads take out the yelling and frustration of teaching a kid to ride a bike and enjoy the benefits of enjoyable family rides afterwards. With over 25+ years’ experience, put your trust in this popular, parent program staple.
