Weekend Picks: Drop off art class, George Washington’s birthday and sledding

February 14, 2014

You’re probably ready to get out of the house after the amazing amount of snow we got. We’ve got some indoor and outdoor weekend picks for the family along with a few sledding hills that you may be interested in zipping down. Have you checked out the new bowling alley in Georgetown?

Saturday–

9:00am- 5:00pm Celebrate George Washington’s 282nd Birthday at Mount Vernon!
(3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway,  Mount Vernon, VA 22121)
Mt. Vernon has a weekend full of activities to celebrate General Washington’s 282nd birthday. Breakfast with George Washington, wreath laying ceremony, dancing demonstrations and musical celebrations are a few of the planned activities.  Celebrations go on all weekend: Feb. 15-17, Free Admission on Feb. 17! I’ve taken advantage of the complimentary entry and it is crowded but still worth going if that’s the only time you can make the visit.  $17 adult/$8/child.

10:00am-12:00pm- Mixed age Art Class at The Children’s Art Studio
(4723 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC. 20016)
The class is ten hours and meet through the end of March (Session dates: Feb, 15, 22, March 1, 8, and 22). Ages 5 and up and is a drop off class. $300.  Must email to enroll.

Weekend Picks: Spiderman, Valentine’s Day & Disco around DC

February 7, 2014

Lots to do on Saturday, not sure how we will choose what to do. Enjoy the weekend with your bambino(s). As always let us know how your experiences were or other places you suggest we add to our top Picks for the weekend or weekdays!

Saturday–

(FNDTN Gallery & Liveroom – 3762 Howard Ave. Kensington, Md. 20895)
Foundation is a boutique art gallery and intimate live music venue. Haven’t had a chance to see Andrés yet? Seen him and your kids loved him? He’s playing here (and there’s plenty of parking which is a plus). Uno, Dos, Tres con Andrés! is an interactive children’s show celebrating Spanish language and Latin American culture. Children sing, shake, and sound out rhythms while trying regional Latin dances and practicing Spanish words. $6 Advance/$8 At Door

This week’s adventures: Portrait Gallery, Flights of Fancy & Andrés

January 26, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-01-26 at 8.25.19 PMWe wanted to thank everyone for the overwhelming support we received our first week. We reached over 200 likes on Facebook in just 5 days of launching and we had great activity on our blog by readers. Please continue to share, like and comment as we would love to reach more of you and learn about how we can better serve your needs.

We hope everyone had a weekend full of adventures and laughs. We attended El Tamarindo for the first-ever DC Family Fiesta which featured some of DC kids favorite music artists. Keep an eye out in the upcoming Weekend Picks for more details on this Saturday morning fiesta. We found an overwhelming amount of children’s activities this week, it was hard to narrow it down to our favorites below. We hope you enjoy them and can get to a lot of them as we chosen places throughout DC, MD and VA. Have a great week with your bambino(s)!

Monday, Jan. 27

10:00am-12:00pm- Takoma Park Community Playtime at Heffner Community Center
(42 Oswego Ave. Takoma Park, MD. 20910)
