Hopefully everyone enjoyed a nice Mother’s Day as well as the sunshine and dry day we had!! We’ve got another packed week full of Adventures for your Bambinos. Please let us know of an activity that needs to be featured for others to check out. Make sure you look at the Indoor Fun Guide as a lot of places (think trampoline spaces)  feature “toddler times” during the week.

Monday-

9:30am-11:00am: Rise + Rhyme at Busboys & Poets
(235 Carroll St NW  Washington, DC 20012)
A Busboys and Poets in-house series! Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under, stay-at-home parents, and early rising families of all kinds. Culture Queen creates fun and cultural experiences for your royal children! Join her at Rise and Rhyme for interactive storytelling, music and movement activities that build your prince or princesses child’s self esteem while introducing them to diverse cultures from many royal lands.

9:30am-11:00am: Rise + Rhyme at Busboys & Poets

A Busboys and Poets in-house series! Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under, stay-at-home parents, and early rising families of all kinds. DC-based singer/songwriter, Mr. Banjo Man is a well-known local performer, who performs frequently in the DC/MD/VA area.

9:30am-10:30am: Harambe at Bloombars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Drumming and inspirational songs.

10:00am-11:30am: Toddler Art Class at New Community ArtSpace
(614 S Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in. $5 drop in fee. Supply donations welcomed. (To park your stroller come to the side of the building, go up the ramp, dial #01 and someone will let you in so you can park your stroller inside. Then come on downstairs for class.)

10:30am: Songs and Stories at Politics & Prose
(5015 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington, D.C. 20008)
Interactive children’s songs! Meet downstairs in the children’s department. Arrive early as it gets crowded.

Tuesday-

9:30am AND 10:15am: Baby Storytime at Noyes Library
(10237 Carroll Pl, Kensington, MD 20895)
This is a storytime geared toward babies. Recommended ages are newborn to 18 months. Join us as we sing songs,read books and enjoy fingerplays. Due to the popularity of storytime we are now requiring registration. Please register for the adult caregiver attending.

10:00am AND 11:00am: Mr. Gabe at Takoma Park Maryland Library
(101 Philadelphia Avenue Takoma Park, MD 20912)
Free! No need to pre-register.

10:00am-11:00am: Shadow Puppets at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
This shadow puppet stage show will feature a variety of characters and menagerie of traditional and original songs. It explores themes that center around the seasons, the environment, as well as learning components of music.

10:15am-11:00am: Tot Time! Sssssnakes at Locust Grove Nature Center
(7777 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817)
Snakes are SO cool! They don’t have arms or legs, but can move really fast and even climb trees. Find out about our local snakes and hold one if you dare. Program also runs on Wednesday.

11:00am-7:30pm: Two for One at Color Me Mine
(823 Ellsworth Drive Silver Spring, Maryland 20910)
2 people paint for 1 studio fee.

Wednesday-

9:30am-12:00pm: Open Studio: Drop-in Toddler Play at Little Loft Art Studio
(7007 Carroll Ave Takoma Park, MD 20912)
Art activities and tactile play for ages 18mos. and up. Come in and explore! Rotating toddler-friendly activities including homemade play dough, sand table, rice table, drawing and painting.   $15/child (half price for the second child) passes available for purchase. No registration required. Read post I wrote previously about how wonderful Little Loft is!

10:00am-12:00pm: Mornings with Mommy (&Daddies, too!)
(3401 Idaho Ave NW)
Looking for something to do with your little ones during the week this Summer? Stroll over to Cathedral Commons for our Mornings with Mommy (& Daddies, too!) event series. This free activity will provide engaging, exciting and educational activities for children of all ages! Events will range from musical education to a reptile show! On the second Wednesday of the month, May through September, visit Newark Street at Wisconsin Ave (in front of Giant Food Store) where Mornings with Mommy will meet. Each month enjoy a different theme, sure to provide quality time together for you and your child.

10:00am-11:00am: Little Treasures at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Artist in Bloom Resident Tamika Love Jones presents Little Treasures, an educational and interactive journey for babies and children (under age 3) that explores a special box of little treasures. Each treasure that is picked from the box will lead tots and parents to sing their favorite songs, read fun stories and explore their bodies through exciting movement. The theme of Little treasures is self-love and teaching the tots that they, too, are little treasures!

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents Marsha & the Positrons at Union Market 
(1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC. 20002)
Access the free market parking lot from 6th Street NE or travel via metro to NoMA-Gallaudet. Come early for coffee and stay for lunch! $5 per child, siblings 6 months and under free.

Thursday-

9:30am AND 10:15am: Toddler and Preschool Storytime at Noyes Library

Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

10:30am: The Great Zucchini at Jammin Java
(227 Maple Ave E Vienna, VA 22180)
Get tickets for The Great Zucchini, Washington’s funniest and most magical preschool and kindergarten entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh. Experience the excitement of the children when they get to learn a magic trick at the end of show.

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents at Kidsinger Jim at Eastern Market
(225 7th St. SE, North Hall Washington, DC 20003)
Join us at Historic Eastern Market’s North Hall (closest to South Carolina) for a lively concert, grab lunch and shop for dinner. Access to the North Hall via the market for Boogie Babes. Eastern Market Metro is two short blocks away. $5 per child; siblings under 6 mos FREE!

5:30pm-6:30pm: Bollywood Blooms- Let’s Dance Kids! at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Classes will begin with light stretching and a brief background and history of the song choice for the day. Since all Bollywood dance songs are essentially a story and our dance is in the form of storytelling, we will be focusing on using our body as words and our facial expressions to help illuminate these words. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing (sweatpants/tights and T-shirts). I prefer to dance barefoot and you all are welcome to join me. If you prefer to wear shoes, please wear sneakers or tennis shoes. Don’t forget a bottle of water and your high energy!

Friday-

9:30am AND 10:15am: Me and You-kelele Storytime at Noyes Library

Come Sing, Read, and Rhyme With Us! Stories and music by our ukulele-playing librarian are a fun way to learn about sounds, rhythm, and rhyme and is a natural support for your child’s early learning. Appropriate for all ages.

10:30am: Rainbow Rock at Jammin Java

Get ready to rock the rainbow! The Rainbow Lady (Kate Moran) joined by some of her friends make up the amazing Rainbow Rock Band!! These talented tunesters will entertain your little ones with a combination of classic and original children’s songs from their CD, “Meet the Rainbow!” They will keep you boppin in your socks until you just can’t rock anymore! While movin and groovin your little one will be introduced to shapes, colors and more! Are you ready to meet the rainbow?

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents Mr. Skip at Atlas Performing Arts
(1333 H Street NE Washington, DC. 20002)
Join us at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center along the H Street Corridor. Snack bar and bathrooms are easily accessible. Lots of good and kid-friendly lunch options within one to three blocks!

1:00pm-4:00pm: The National Portrait Gallery presents Open Studio Fridays
(Eighth & F St NW, Washington, DC 20001 – Education Center, Room E151)
Friday afternoons at the Gallery feature some creative and free fun! Check out a Portrait Discovery Kit to explore the museum and try a different selection of art material each week.

6:00pm-9:00pm: Bobby & Believers at Washingtonian Center for RIO Summertime Concert Series
(209 Boardwalk Pl. Gaithersburg, Md. 20878)
Live music on RIO Patio near the paddle boats!
