10:00am-11:15: Red Panda Art drop-in workshop: Abstract Art
Morning workshops are designed with children ages almost 2 to 6 in mind. The session begins with lots of sensory play and open art exploration, then read a story and complete a more guided, yet still open-ended project. Older siblings welcome! Studio location is inside the WAS Gallery at the Westwood II Shopping Center (5110 Ridgefield Rd., Bethesda). Caregiver should attend with child.

10:30am: Cat in the Hat at Adventure Theatre
Based on the book by Dr. Seuss- From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that the cat in the hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas, he is certainly fun to play with. And he turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure. But what will mom find when she gets home…?

Oh no! A sneaky squirrel has stolen Sylvie’s favorite underpants! Follow Sylvie on a mysterious adventure with curious characters. Will our heroine rescue her underpants? Join us on this adventure to find out!

10:30am: Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods: Moona Luna
Moona Luna is “the missing soundtrack for bilingual and bicultural kids” (The New York Daily News). Mixing Mexican folk, a rock sensibility, and alternating smoothly between English and Spanish, this is a performance you won’t want to miss!

7:00pm: NoMa Family Film Night: Rudy (PG) 
The theme for the 12th season of Summer Screen — our longest-running free public event — is WHO’S GOT GAME? We’ve got a fun lineup of sports-related films. Chairs are encouraged, as are blankets, frisbees, dogs on leases and picnic coolers when the doors open at 7:00pm, movies begin at sunset: 8:37 p.m.

10:30am: Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods: Taratibu Youth Association Unspoken Stories
An ensemble of talented young dancers perform hip-hop, modern, and traditional African dance to powerful music including contemporary gospel, spirituals, and native Zulu and Kiswahili vocals.

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents Guava Jelly
The Boogie Babes program brings interactive musical performances for young children and their caregivers each week at Eastern Market. The events, typically 45 minutes in length, provide a wonderful way to expose children to different musical instruments and styles while also raising funds for and awareness of Greater DC Diaper Bank’s work and mission. 

Friday

9:00am-11:00am: Camp Crafts with District Dabble Lab at Nook
Lanyards. Tie-dye shirts. Friendship bracelets. We all have that one craft we remember from camp. Let’s bring them back with this craft workshop by District Dabble Lab. Included in Open Play admission. Event begins at 10:00a,. Limited spots available. Nook Ballston Quarter.

With their optimistic lyrics and innovative instrumentation, Ants Ants Ants offers an invitation into that golden childhood we always dreamed of having and creating for the ones we love.

5:00pm-8:30pm: Jazz in the Sculpture Garden
The Jazz in the Garden Series begins its 19th season in May. The free concert series features jazz artists performing a wide variety of styles—Brazilian Folk Jazz, Alternative Modern, Blues, Reggae, World Steam Punk, Afro Funk, African Fusion Jazz, Cuban Charanga, Django Guitar, New Orleans Jazz, and more—every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. You can purchase food and adult beverages or bring your own picnic (but no adult bevs are allowed in, purchase them there).

6:00pm-9:00pm: Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square
Kick off your weekend with live entertainment, great company, and fantastic food, wine and beer from the restaurants at Rockville Town Square from 6:00pm-9:00pm on The Square in Rockville Town Square. Music ranges from 80’s and 90’s cover bands, funk and soul, roots rock blues and southern rock.

7:00pm-9:00pm: Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series :Justin Trawick & Navy Band Country Current
The free Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series is back for its 9th Season! Every Friday night this summer, head to Yards Park to relax and take in the river view, fantastic bands on the Corona stage, food and beverage, and a large variety of great restaurants within a few minutes walk from the park. Family-friendly lyrics and grassy open space make this an enjoyable event for all to enjoy.
