Kidchella at Badlands invites you to celebrate Badlands 2nd birthday Saturday & Sunday! They will have festival themed programming and activities for all ages and will even feature a VIP lounge for members.

The Cat in the Hat makes its debut at Adventure Theatre this weekend and will be on stage through August 18. Our family is thrilled to see it on Sunday and will report back with our thoughts.

Learn about the fabulous felines of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, from speedy cheetahs to tough tigers in Hello, Kitty! preschool class on Saturday and/or Sunday. Friends of the National Zoo preschool classes are designed for children ages 2-3 to discover a whole new view of the National Zoo. “Adult-and-me” format classes use interactive learning stations, hands-on activities and crafts, Nature Play, and exciting Zoo Walks to engage your child’s sense of wonder and curiosity about wildlife and the natural world.  $28/child for FONZ members. $35/child for non-members. Registration fee covers one child with adult. 

Community Weekend at National Gallery of Art celebrates The Life of Animals in Japanese Art. Explore Japanese culture and animals in Japanese art with activities for all ages all weekend long.

Landmark Theatre West End presents the Global Children’s Film Series beginning this Saturday.

UniverSoul Circus comes to National Theatre June 20-July 28.

Join the celebration of this year’s Artist-In-Residence program at AIRBORNE – an exhibition of new work and art programming all weekend long. Mingle with the artists, explore creative works on display and join us for immersive artist instillations and artists talks. Three acclaimed artists have transformed 20,000 SF of office space into an immersive art experience. On Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23 from 9:30am to 11:30am the program will host a Kid’s Freeplay Workshop. There will be coloring and paint tables, a reading library, touch and feel stations and an augmented reality showcase. The event is free and open to children of all ages!

Various Times: Smithsonian Solstice Saturday is bringing a plethora of fun to families this Saturday! The Smithsonian marks the first Saturday of summer—Solstice Saturday—by staying open late and hosting parties, programs (morning for kiddos), and performances. Many Smithsonian museums will be open until midnight welcoming visitors to the free festivities. 

9:30am and 11:00am: Saturday at the National Theatre
Traveling Lantern: My Mother the Astronaut
Aquarius’ mom is an astronaut and today is “Take your child to work day.” Aquarius can’t wait to go to NASA and find out what it’s like to be in space! Together Auquarius and her mother visit Mission Control where she meets scientists and engineers who show her what they do and she learns all about space travel. Her imagination blasts off and she dreams of incredible journeys through the cosmos!

10:00am: Kids Pizza Class at Matchbox
Round up your mini chefs for a kids pizza party at Matchbox, featuring a hands-on pizza making class (complete with chef hat), a tour of a kitchen, and a round of mimosas for parents. Tickets are $32 per child, and are available for the following Matchbox locations:14th Street, Merrifield, Pentagon City, One Loudon, Potomac Mills, Rockville & Silver Spring.
