Weekday Adventures: Starry, Starry Night, Owl-O-Ween and Boo at the Zoo

This week has all of our usual fun activities but near the end of the week Halloween festivities will begin! Get those finishing touches on those costumes!

Monday-

9:30am-11:00am- Rise and Rhyme at Busboys and Poets

Rise + Rhyme is a weekly Busboys and Poets series for local stay-at-home parents and early rising families of all kinds! Featuring performances and stories for children ages 5 and under. This week Marsha Goodman-Wood, a D C-based singer/songwriter and music teacher will perform. Marsha is known for getting kids singing and dancing at her shows, setting little toes to tapping with original melodies that mix generous doses of science and positive social messages into songs that are just plain fun.

Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

Come sing-along to your favorite songs. Grab a treat in the cafe afterwards or hang out reading books.

Tuesday-

10:00am-12:00pm: Mommy & Me (and Daddy Too) at Rockville Town Center

You and your child will meet for a Halloween themed play date with active learning and creative play at all your favorite stores! There are lunch specials, story time, arts & crafts, sing-a-longs, prizes, and a whole lot more! Admission is free but register in advance.

10:00am: Tudor Tots: Fall Frolic

Tudor Place has enchanted young children for 200 years. Experience it yourself Tuesday mornings, as you meet to read, sing, and play in the gardens and historic spaces. This family-friendly program offers a new theme each week, from “adventurous animals” to “growing gardens” and more. Children will participate in interactive read-alouds, songs, and themed movements related to the week’s topic, sharing a tranquil setting with the grown-ups who care for them. Sign up for one class or all of the classes that run through November 25. Parents/caregivers remain with children.

11:00am and 12:00pm: Mr. Gabe at Cox Farms

A perfect way to explore a new farm and fall festival. The farm opens at 10:00am so get there early to play and then catch the concert(s).

10:00am: Samba Baby at Bloombars

It’s never too early to learn the infectious dance of the world’s 5th largest country and there’s no better teacher then Zezeh Zax– a dancer, professional performer of Brazilian samba and founder of the ZEZEH BRAZIL Dance Troupe. Get your baby movin and groovin!

10:00am: Rocking Tot Tuesdays with The Singing Lizard at Bloombars

Grab an instrument, get on stage or practice your moves on the dance floor. This is a perfect spot for your little one to move and groove. Suggested donation $7.

!Uno, Dos, Tres con Andres! is a sure bet every time. Children of various ages enjoy this interactive show that teaches Spanish language and Latin American culture.

Thursday-

(Air & Space Museum)
Blast into space with wacky Professor Van Gogo for an incredible celestial voyage! This imaginative introduction to stargazing includes star stories brought to life by StoneLion Puppet Theatre’s hand and rod puppets. After the show, we invite you to visit the Explore the Universe Gallery. This production is generously underwritten by the Hilton Early Childhood Initiative and is presented in partnership with the National Air and Space Museum. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

10:30am-11:30am: Snugglers at the United States Botanic Garden

Do you have a tiny treasure in a snuggly? Looking for ways to get out of the house, and learn? Join us each Thursday for a 45-minute guided tour of the Conservatory. Each week will be a different exploration. This program is designed for parents and care providers who have a tiny one in a snuggly. Please note: Due to narrow paths and the nature of this program, they cannot support strollers or older siblings.

10:30am: Boogie Babes at Eastern Market

Our most popular show of the week! Join us at Historic Eastern Market’s North Hall (closest to South Carolina) for a lively concert, grab lunch and shop for dinner. Access to the North Hall via the market for Boogie Babes. Eastern Market Metro is two short blocks away.

10:30am: The Great Zucchini at Jammin Java

Get tickets here for The Great Zucchini, Washington’s funniest and most magical preschool and kindergarten entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh. 10:30am: Rocknoceros at Jammin Java

As every family with youngsters in the DC area knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys: Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie. They have been making award-winning music for the whole family since 2005.

10:30am: Boogie Babes at Atlas Performing Arts

Join us at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center along the H Street Corridor. Snack bar and bathrooms are easily accessible. Lots of good and kid-friendly lunch options within one to three blocks!

2:00pm-4:00pm: Afternoon Aviators at College Park Aviation Museum

Afternoon Aviators is a weekly series for children ages five and up. Join us for fun hands-on aviation themed activities. Activities range from making your own paper airplane to playing a game of aviation bingo. This program is held every Friday from 2pm to 4pm and is free with regular museum admission.

4:00pm: Old School Pre-School Musical Foundations at Bloombars

Join renowned jazz vocalist and music educator Rochelle Rice on a music history journey traversing various genre’s from generation past to present. Parents and little ones learn about the lives and music of America’s greatest performers through interactive musical activities, dancing, singing, and storytelling. From Mozart to Mahalia Jackson, the goal is to nurture well-rounded music lovers and inspire early learning through the arts.

5:30pm-8:30pm: Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Zoo is Washington DC’s favorite Halloween treat. With more than 40 not-so-spooky treat stations, animal demonstrations, keeper chats, and decorated trails, this event is frightfully fun for the whole family. With traditional chocolates, as well as good for you snacks, souvenirs, and other items, thousands of Boo treat bags will be brimming with goodies at the end of the evening. 6:00pm-7:30pm: Owl-O-Ween Campfire at Meadowside Nature Center

Join us around the campfire for owl facts, folklore, and fun. Meet our mascot Otus the Owl and visit with one of Meadowside’s resident owls. We will have marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate for s’mores. Children and adults must register and pay. 3 and up $7.

6:00pm-9:00pm: Spooky Spy Family Night at the Spy Museum
