For those with older kids who have Tuesday off from school to honor our Veteran’s you may want to check out Interstellar playing on IMAX at The Air and Space Museum. We saw Big Hero 6 this weekend, which was good for most ages– (there is a death in the movie, however). This is playing at many theaters in our area as is Interstellar if you don’t feel like fighting for parking down on the Mall. 

Also, if you want to send your Bambino(s) to keep them entertained all day, we have a few options here.

Tuesday- Veteran’s Day

8:00am: Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery 
The National Veterans Day Observance is held each year at Arlington National Cemetery. All events are free and open to the public. A prelude concert will begin in the Memorial Amphitheater at 10:30 a.m. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 11 a.m. and will be followed by an observance program in the amphitheater. Space is limited to standing room only for the wreath-laying ceremony and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the amphitheater. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure access to these events and should plan to be seated no later than 9:30 a.m.

10:00am-10:45am: Tudor Place: Fall Frolic

Tudor Place has enchanted young children for 200 years. Experience it yourself Tuesday mornings, as we meet to read, sing, and play in the gardens and historic spaces. This family-friendly program offers a new theme each week, from “adventurous animals” to “growing gardens” and more. Children will participate in interactive read-alouds, songs, and themed movements related to the week’s topic, sharing a tranquil setting with the grown-ups who care for them. For ages 2-4. $5/session, adults free.

10:00am: Rocking Tot Tuesdays with The Singing Lizard at Bloombars

Grab an instrument, get on stage or practice your moves on the dance floor. This is a perfect spot for your little one to move and groove. Suggested donation $7.

10:00am: Museum of Natural History’s Butterfly Pavilion 
(10th St. and Constitution Ave., NW)
Every Tuesday at 10:00am you can get into the magnificent butterfly pavilion for free! Make sure and get a free ticket by the entrance. We visited this last month and were amazed by how many butterflies were flying around, some even landing on a shoulder. Look closely and you could spot a frog under some trees.

As every family with youngsters in the DC area already knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys: Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie, who make wildly popular, award-winning music for the whole family. Tickets are $5.

10:30am-11:30am: Snugglers at the United States Botanic Garden

Do you have a tiny treasure in a snuggly? Looking for ways to get out of the house, and learn? Join us each Thursday for a 45-minute guided tour of the Conservatory. Each week will be a different exploration. This program is designed for parents and care providers who have a tiny one in a snuggly. Please note: Due to narrow paths and the nature of this program, they cannot support strollers or older siblings.

Have the day off?  Drop off your kids ages 3-6 for an afternoon of fun at lil omm yoga! In the first half, we will move, play, craft, and enjoy each other’s company.  Next we will explore music and movement in Miss Carrie’s Dance Mix class. Snacks and smiles included. Cost: $25/child + $15/sibling

7:00pm: The Concert for Valor on the National Mall
Concert honoring our country’s veterans will be held on the Mall. If you don’t want to brave the cold evening with the kids, you can catch the concert on HBO.

Bollywood (Bombay + Hollywood) is India’s—and the world’s—largest entertainment industry. Most Bollywood movies are musicals made up of elaborate dance sequences and original songs. Classes will begin with light stretching and a brief background and history of the song choice for the day. Since all Bollywood dance songs are essentially a story and our dance is in the form of storytelling, we will be focusing on using our body as words and our facial expressions to help illuminate these words.

Friday- 

The Region’s must see holiday attraction ICE! is back with an exciting new theme — ICE!featuring Frosty the Snowman. See everyone’s favorite snowman brought to life carved from over two million pounds of colorful ice. Walk thru this classic Christmas story, slide down ice slides over two stories high and watch our artisans as they create these frozen marvels in our special bonus area — The Frostbite Factory — a LIVE ice carving zone. It’s all part of Christmas On the Potomac at Gaylord National Resort.
