Weekend picks are extremely late because we have family in town for our daughter’s first dance recital and yesterday we were fortunate enough to play tourist in our own city. We highly recommend the free 30 minute tour at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing. You can get free tickets at the ticket booth on 15th St SW right next to the building. On the tour you get to see the production process of how money is made. Both of my kids ages 4.5 & 8 loved it! The visitor center includes exhibits and currency products for sale. We then went to the District Wharf where we all chose to grab lunch from various restaurants and meet back on one of the piers where they have enormous games for children to play; jenga, scrabble and connect four are a few all while watching the boats dock, water taxis arrive and people realizing along the water. From there we headed to Hains Point to play mini-golf. There are no frills or themes however it is almost completely shaded and is actually on the National Register of Historic Places listed as the oldest continually operating miniature golf course in the country.

10:00am-5:30pm:Hawaiian Cultural Festival at the National Museum of the American Indian
King Kamehameha – respected Native Hawaiian warrior, leader and diplomat – united the Hawaiian Islands into a royal kingdom in 1810. Learn about the King’s legacy by exploring the lua, traditional training for warriors as well as the unique royal Hawaiian regalia, including distinctive feather capes. Other activities include scholarly presentations, music, storytelling and family activities.

The fun begins at 7:00pm. Free open air movie showings sponsored by The Jen Walker Team. Bring blankets and cozy up. No 4 legged friends.

10:00am-2:00pm: Takoma Park Children’s Business Fair
Observe the opportunity for children to launch their very own startup business! Kids develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at our one-day marketplace. 24+ booths!
10:00am-3:00pm: Old Town Festival of Speed & Style
View dozens of rare and exotic cars up close, made famous by their speed, performance and elegance, which will be on display on the lower three blocks of King Street. This will be enhanced by a presentation of style, fashion and live music provided by over 40+ local merchants via the Old Town Boutique District.
6:00pm:Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor: Incredibles 2
Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars—and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor. Pack your picnic blankets, grab food to go from one of the delicious dining establishments, and meet at the Plaza’s big screen for a FREE evening of fun for all ages! Please note that movies will begin at 6:00pm and will be shown once. They also feature Date Night Movies on Thursdays at 7:00pm.
