Weekend Picks for June 3-5

June 3, 2016

Hate to say it (or accept it) but check websites for events on Sunday as bad weather is headed our way.

Friday-

Unknown3:30pm-7:30pm: Westbrook Elementary 72nd Annual Carnival
(5110 Allan Terrace Bethesda, MD 20816)
Join us and surf on the mechanical surf board, climb the rock wall, play Superchance, jump on a moonbounce, try out Bottlemania, ride the Reckless and walk the Cake Walk! We have great prizes this year for our games ranging from iPad minis to Fitbits. Featuring local middle and high school bands such as Sonic Boom and the F-35s. Food trucks such as Jose Andres’ Pepe, DC Far East Taco, CapMac, Go Fish, Armands and Captain Cookie and the Milkman will be there.

Saturday-

9:00am-2:00pm: Truck Touch at RFK Stadium
(RFK Stadium, Lot 7 -2400 East Capitol Street, SE – drivers should enter off of Benning Road, NE)
The free event will feature a variety of free activities for kids and adults. A host of DC government agencies will present and demonstrate nearly 30 vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, collect refuse, clear snow, provide emergency services, administer mobile health care, and more. Free boxed lunches will be provided to kids age 18 and under.

9:30am AND 11:00am: Monkey Tales at National Theatre
(1321 Pennsylvania Ave NW)
An entertaining, dynamic show filled with stories of adventure. Children actively participate in the journey as they travel with Arianna to the market place of a small village, the jungle, and a tiger sanctuary. During this performance, families explore the world of folk tales using four tools: body, voice, imagination, and teamwork. Audiences will leave the storytelling performance dancing like a monkey and roaring like a tiger!

10:00am-1:00pm: Acton Children’s Business Fair
(3400 Connecticut Ave NW)
The largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, this one-day fair gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses. An outdoor market where children ages 6 to 14 become entrepreneurs for a day. Think Eastern Market run by kids! Bring cash.

10:00am-11:00am: First Studio at Kreeger Museum
(2401 Foxhall Road, NW Washington D.C. 20007)
Children are invited to use their imagination as they explore the paintings, sculpture, and architecture of The Kreeger Museum. Each program includes a gallery tour, a story and a hands-on art-making experience. Adult companion required. Recommended for ages 3–5. Our family LOVES programs at The Kreeger Museum.

10:00am-3:00pm: Imagination Bethesda
(Woodmont Avenue and Elm Street in downtown Bethesda)
Celebrate children, art, and all things fun at the 22nd annual Imagination Bethesda.
Activity tents line the streets, face painters bring butterflies and pirates to life, a stage of live entertainment will have the whole street dancing, and more! Enjoy this FREE family fun day!

10:00am-5:00pm: Jazz ‘n Families Fun Days at The Phillips Collection
(1600 21st Street, NW)
Jazz ‘n Families Fun Days will once again partner with the The Phillips Collection in conjunction with the Dupont Kalorama Museums Consortium annual walk weekend. (1840 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC 20009)
We’re celebrating new playgrounds, a beautifully re-designed plaza and a healthier Rock Creek Watershed, thanks to a sustainable stormwater system installed by the City. While the kids test out the new playgrounds, the grownups can listen to local Bluegrass band By and By at 11:30am. Mayor Bowser makes remarks at 1pm and the James Benson Jazz Quartet plays at 2:30. In between, there’ll be classes for adults and face painting for kids and more. Mint Gym is offering a free circuit class at 11am and a core class at 11:30. Our Community Gardeners are having an Open House starting at 11am. Sitar Arts Center is hosting an arts table for kids. Mr. Lilo, a bilingual musician and kid favorite, performs at 12:30pm. Studio DC Yoga Center is offering a free beginner’s yoga class at 2pm. Free balloons and face painting for kids. Glen’s Market is giving away free samples of their local products. This is a FREE EVENT.
