Weekend picks in and around Washington, DC

June 18, 2021

Juneteenth Flag, 3D rendering

24 ways to Commemorate Juneteenth this weekend, thanks to Washingtonian.

A few summer camps still have openings! Hirshhorn Kids Summer at Home has extended their registration deadline to this Monday if an at-home art camp interests your kids.

After a 15-month closure, The Avalon Theatre is beyond thrilled to announce that they are open to the public. They’re taking a cautious, conservative approach when it comes to health and safety measures, including limited capacity, reserved seating, and mask requirements. More can be learned about these measures here. They will also continue the popular Virtual Cinema program, with many films being available both in theaters and online.

How fun is this? YardWork Concerts supports full-time, working jazz musicians who had to suspend their live performances this past year. The only place they could legally and safely play was outside on private property. They’ve now held over 80 concerts in yards in Tenleytown, Palisades and other neighborhoods. Here’s a recent piece in dcist about YardWork Concerts. If you’re interested in having a wonderful jazz or bluegrass concert in your backyard or front porch, contact Michael

Washington National’s are hosting the Mets this weekend with 4 games. Sunday’s game is a kids hooded t-shirt promotion in addition to celebrating Father’s Day.

Our area has so many great options when it comes to summertime movies and music!
