Weekend Picks July 16-17

Take a ride with Chuggington at the B&O Railroad Museum this weekend.  A traintastic adventure that you need to register for now before it’s too late for your train lovers.

Through August 6, children can take a blast into the past as Montpelier’s grounds will be transformed into a kid-sized colonial village! Young visitors can camp out on the frontier, design a hat at the milliners, harvest crops at the farm, and other fun activities. Come for an hour or stay for the day.

Saturday-

9:30am AND 11:00am: The Uncle Devin Show at National Theatre

You’ll be clapping your hands and tapping your feet as Uncle Devin uses percussion to introduce families to jazz, funk, reggae, hip-hop, and Latin beats. Using storytelling and music, he creates a show that is positive, uplifting, and fun. Free shows!

10:00am-12:00pm: Color Studio at Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center for Toddlers and Twos
(Natural History Museum)

10:00am-4:00pm: Lotus and Water Lily Festival at Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens

Find Your Park in the wild wetlands of Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens at the annual Lotus and Water Lily Festival! Celebrate the National Park Service Centennial and global culture with FREE activities for the whole family: See a spectacular display of lotus and water lilies in full bloom! 10:00am-3:00pm: Archaeology Festival at Dumbarton House

Celebrate archaeology at the 5th annual Day of Archaeology Festival. Talk to archaeologists in person and learn about the science and art of archaeology. Kids can enjoy activities, including mock‐excavations, hands‐on artifact displays, crafts, and demonstrations. Live music, face painting, and visits from some of DC’s favorite food trucks. Free event.

10:30am: Story Pirates at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods

Celebrate the power of words with these professional actors who link literacy and confident self-expression in a sketch comedy musical based on favorite stories written by kids from around the country.

1:00pm-4:00pm: DC Scoop Ice Cream Social at Union Market

DC’s sweetest event is back! Join us on Sunday July 17th — National Ice Cream Day! —  from 1pm-4pm for frozen treats and savory snacks from your favorite ice cream shops and local food trucks. The event will be held in Dock 5 and the alley behind the market. It is free to attend and there will be ice cream available to sample and purchase.

6:00pm: Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
