Weekend Picks: November 24-26, 2017

A quick list of activities happening this weekend. Hope everyone had a nice holiday with plenty to be thankful for.

Nov. 18, 2017- Jan. 1, 2018: ICE!® featuring Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
ICE!—our signature holiday attraction—is back with a new theme in 2017! Experience favorite scenes from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brought to life in this walk-through winter wonderland carved from more than two million pounds of ice.

November 23, 2017 – January 1, 2018: Season’s Greenings: Roadside Attractions at US Botanic Garden
This year, take a trip across America as our annual holiday show Season’s Greenings showcases Roadside Attractions! In our model train show, trains will chug around, below, through, and above plant-based recreations of iconic sights from across the United States. Explore classic attractions like Texas’ Cadillac Ranch, Colorado’s hot-dog-shaped Coney Island Hot Dog Stand, South Dakota’s Corn Palace, New Jersey’s Lucy the Elephant, and many more. View thousands of blooms throughout the Conservatory, including a showcase of heirloom and newly developed poinsettia varieties. Our collection of D.C. landmarks made from plant materials will return to fill the Garden Court, this year including a new addition–an inspired botanical version of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Join us as we celebrate the holidays and America’s natural and cultural treasures.

Nov. 24- Dec. 2, 2017:  Tenley WinterFest
Tenley WinterFest is an eight-day celebration of the holiday season designed to showcase local businesses, community groups, and the neighborhood – all with a unique Tenleytown flair and lots of yetis.

Nov. 25, 2017 from 11:00am-2:00pm: Can you CANstruct? at the Building Museum
Engineer your own can-tastic creations! Design a plan for an original CANstruction piece using paper mosaics. Explore the engineering challenges on display in the Great Hall as you try your hand at building your own 3-dimensional structure. Don’t forget to bring a canned good to vote for your favorite CANstruction! Free, drop-in. All ages.

Nov. 26, 2017 at 5:30pm: Kids Pajama Jam Party at AMP Strathhmore
Get ready to ring in the holidays with a special festive Pajama Jam! Described as “the best-sounding band in children’s music” (NPR’s All Things Considered), three-time Grammy nominees Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could are here to shake, dance, and groove their way through classic holiday favorites and new holiday jams alike! Their rootsy, accordion-laced take on children’s music is energetic, spirited, and will provide the perfect soundtrack for your holiday.
Nov. 17 – Dec. 31, 2017: Frosty the Snowman at Adventure Theatre
Do you want to build a snow man? How about watching him spring to life in front of you for one day of adventures before he melts away? In this merry wintertime romp, chock-full of chuckles and comic antics, Frosty dances into the hearts of kids and adults alike- even the heart of one near-sighted cop- through his uproarious antics. Recommended all ages.

Nov. 18, 2017 – Jan. 7, 2018: Charlotte’s Web at Imagination Stage
In this beloved classic (now infused with live music!), Fern, a soft-hearted farm girl, forms an unlikely bond with Wilbur, a charismatic pig. At the Zuckerman Farm, Wilbur meets a silly goose, a moody sheep, a selfish rat, and Charlotte, a clever spider. In an effort to save her friend, Charlotte weaves flattering messages about him into her web that cause a sensation in the small town. Fall in love with your favorite characters all over again as they bring this “radiant” tale from page to stage this holiday season! Recommended ages 5+.

Artechouse (immersive, sensory art) has an exhibit that is getting ready to end. They sell out quickly, so if you can’t get tickets to the current show, check out the upcoming: Imaginary World of the Nutcracker // Dec 7 – Jan 7
