DCPS mid-winter break camps

January 8, 2019

This year District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) has a mid-winter break; February 18-22, 2019. Don’t fret if you didn’t plan to take that exotic vacation or have time to take off work that week. There are a variety of camps you can sign your child up for.

Breathing Space Yoga: February 18-22

Breathing Space Kids Yoga Camp offers kids ages 4-10 years enriching yoga and mindfulness experiences in a playful, non-competitive environment so they can learn self-regulation and stress management techniques, enhance gross motor skills and fitness, and, most importantly, make friends, relax, and have fun on DCPS days off.

Kids will do yoga movement classes, mindfulness activities, relaxation, games, crafts and outdoor time, while offering a non-competitive and supportive environment where kids can learn to learn to work cooperatively as well as learn to care for and nurture themselves.

Humane Rescue Alliance: February 21 & February 22

In tandem with D.C. Public Schools February mid-winter break, the Humane Rescue Alliance is offering two special days, specifically for students who care about animals. These day- long events will provide opportunities for middle and high school students to spend a day at HRA participating in activities designed especially for them.

Middle School: Day of Dogs: Thursday, February 21

Games include everything from kickball, soccer, flag football, team handball, and basketball, to capture the flag and old school “kick the can!” Although we always compete to win, the spirit of the game and FUN is at the center of everything they do.

Hoops Basketball: Clinic style class that teaches the rules and skills needed to enjoy the game in a fun, low pressure environment. Students will learn a new skill such as dribbling, passing, shooting, rules of the game, etc. Students will play fun basketball activities as well as exciting instructional scrimmaging. *Skill Development Work based on grade of students.
