Family-friendly features of Capital One Arena

April 4, 2024

Recently we had the opportunity to attend a Wizards game at Capital One Arena. My kids had such a fun time cheering them on. During time-outs and half-time, there are several fun activities to watch including local dance studios showing off their moves, t-shirts being thrown to guests, participating in all of the fun the time-outs allow for the guests to enjoy. Below are a few of the family-friendly features of Capital One Arena. See some of our fun on our Instagram post below.

MedStar Health Mamava Lactation Pods

Two Mamava Lactation pods, in partnership with MedStar Health, are located at the F-Street elevator landing across from sections 200 and 400, with our ADA accessible pod stationed on the 200 level. Mamava pods are designed with seating, outlets and additional features to provide privacy and comfort to nursing mothers during games, concerts, and events.

Additionally, parents with little ones will be happy to know that there are baby changing stations in all restrooms throughout the building.

Sensory Inclusion

Capital One Arena is a Sensory Inclusive Venue, certified annually by KultureCity. Complementary sensory bags, containing special KultureCity VIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other resources, are available for checkout at Guest Services near Section 102, Guest Services near Section 402, in 215B across from Section 217/218 and on the Lexus Suites Level near Suite 341. There is no cost to the patron to check out a sensory kit, you simply need to check out by leaving an ID.

The arena also has the “David Costabile Sensory Room” (located on the 4th Floor right off of the F Street Escalators, across from section 433) which is a dedicated space designed in partnership with KultureCity and by medical professionals for those who may need a quieter and more secure environment during a game, concert or event. Outfitted with bean bags from Yogibo, visual light panels by Nanoleaf, activity panels, Sparkle Interactive Light (by NunoErin – a therapeutically fun furniture embedded with soft glowing lights that respond to motion), bubble walls, and a custom tactile artwork created by an autistic artist, all guests are welcome to use this space for a stimulation break at every game and event.

First Game Certificates

For fans attending their first Capitals or Wizards games, first game certificates are available at all guest services locations at Capital One Arena. We also distribute birthday pins via guest services!

District E

If you’re looking for a place close to the arena to grab a meal before the game, look no further than District Bites, located in District E powered by Ticketmaster. District Bites is conveniently located in Gallery Place, adjacent to Capital One Arena. Stop by before and after your event to enjoy specialty dishes featuring locally-sourced ingredients – from Detroit-style pizza to handmade desserts.

Something I was unaware of was that before most Capitals and Wizards home games, they host “Block Parties” at District E, which have a rotation of themes (programming is more geared towards families on certain nights than others so fans are encouraged to check the schedule HERE).

Click her to see the schedule of events at Capital One Arena. Sports aren’t your thing? No worries, there are many other events there other than sports.

Disney on Ice presents Frozen at Capital One Arena

February 19, 2018

What: Disney on Ice presents Frozen at Capital One Arena

When: February 14 – 19, 2018

Where: Capital One Arena (formerly known as Verizon Center)- 601 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004

Why: We took our 3 & 6 year old to opening night. My 6 year old son was on the fence about going but was pleasantly surprised and so happy he went. His interest started by watching the pre-entertainment on the ice, followed by eating cotton candy and watching Frozen re-play in front of his eyes but this time on the ice. My daughter arrived in her Elsa dress (as did many other little ones) and sat on the edge of her seat the entire time. Be prepared to be wow-ed by the Snow Monster as he inflates to the size of the ice rink almost. It was such a special event for our family to go to together. It was our first but definitely not last Disney on Ice performance.

Enter a fantastical winter wonderland beyond all imagination at Disney On Ice presents Frozen!  The heartwarming, Academy Award®-winning tale you love is now LIVE and skating into your town. You’ll be magically whisked away into the wintery world of Arendelle, where you will be dazzled by amazing special effects and astonishing skating. Sing and dance along to inspiring songs, including “Let It Go.” Join royal sisters Elsa and Anna, the hilarious snowman Olaf, Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven and the mystical trolls as they journey to discover that true love is ultimately the most magical power of all! Produced by Feld Entertainment, Disney On Ice presents Frozen is performing at Capital One Arena, formerly known as Verizon Center, from February 14 to 19, 2018.

Hosted by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, with special guest appearances by your most beloved Disney Princesses and characters from favorites like Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Disney’s The Lion King, this unforgettable celebration of love and friendship will leave your family with memories to last a lifetime.

Tickets start at: $20.00. Order tickets by phone 1-800-745-3000 or  Order tickets online.
*Ticket pricing is subject to change based on market demand.
