Outdoor fun in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia

We’ve pulled together some great outdoor options for you and your Bambinos in the Washington, DC area. This is not an exhaustive list of ALL places outdoors to play and visit. Instead, it’s a running (constantly being updated) list of out-of-the-box options to head to. Please add your suggestions to the comments below and we’ll keep building! Be sure and scroll all the way to the bottom for some already written content that includes outdoor fun.

Washington, DC-

The Yards Park– (355 Water Street SE Washington DC 20003)
Come experience DC’s new waterfront destination and centerpiece of the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood! Located just south of Capitol Hill and to the east of Nationals Ballpark, this thoughtfully designed park is a place to be active or relax and enjoy the outdoors. At the Yards Park you’ll find open grassy areas and well-landscaped outdoor rooms, a waterfall and canal-like water feature, an elevated overlook, an iconic bridge and light sculpture, terraced performance venue, and a riverfront boardwalk.

Weekday Adventures (a little late!)

August 3, 2015

How is it already August?! Enjoy the remainder of the summer with your Bambinos. Each night there are live concerts and/or outdoor movies, all of which are free. Make sure to find one perfect for your family before summer is over. You can beat the heat this week in the water or at one of the fun events listed below! Keep in mind DC Library has so many events throughout the week for babies, toddlers and teenagers too.

Tuesday:

9:30am and 10:15am: Baby Storytime at Noyes Library
(10237 Carroll Place Kensington, MD 20895)
This is a storytime geared toward babies and toddlers. Recommended ages are newborn to 18 months. Join us as we sing songs,read books and enjoy fingerplays. Storytime is available on a first come first serve basis. Due to space we are limited to the fist 20 parent/baby pairs.

10:00am: Samba Baby at Bloombars
(3222 11th St NW, Washington, DC. 20010)
It’s never too early to learn the infectious dance of the world’s 5th largest country and there’s no better teacher then Zezeh Zax– a dancer, professional performer of Brazilian samba and founder of the ZEZEH BRAZIL Dance Troupe. Get your baby movin and groovin!

Weekday Adventures: Theatre-in-the-Woods, tyke hike and Rainbow Rock

August has arrived….summer is NOT over yet! There’s plenty of time to enjoy with your Bambino(s) before they head back to school. Check out DC Public Library Children’s Events for Spanish story time, yoga, baby lap time and more! 

Keep an eye out for a post tomorrow on local Splash pads and Water parks as the weather this week has a few hot days. 

Monday-

9:30am: Harambe at Bloombars
(3222 11th St NW, Washington, DC. 20010)
Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

9:30am-11:00am: Rise and Rhyme at Busboys and Poets
(5531 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, Md. 20781)
Rise + Rhyme is a weekly Busboys and Poets series for local stay-at-home parents and early rising families of all kinds! Featuring performances and stories for children ages 5 and under. Today’s featured artist is master educator, musician, and storyteller,   Bashea Iya Imana .  “Iya & the Kuumba Kids” is  an interactive, hands-on, fun-filled time. Iya masterfully blends music & movement with storytelling, eco-friendly arts & crafts, and puppetry. This educational program for children fosters a love for learning and promotes literacy, critical thinking, respect for the environment, character development, and creativity.

10:30am-11:15am: Mr. Knick Knack at Reston Town Center (Pavillon)
(11900 Market St, Reston, Va. 20190)
Unique, heart-centered music for kids! Free.

Weekday Adventures: Frogs, Camping & Sky Watching

Hope all the Dads out there had a nice Father’s Day! We had a fun afternoon at the Bowie Baysox game. It’s a close drive from DC and on Fridays and Saturdays they have fireworks. Check it out, baseball fans.

Have a great week. We are counting down the days until DC turns on spray at playgrounds during the week, which will be June 23!

10:00am: Rocking Tot Tuesdays with The Singing Lizard at Bloombars

Grab an instrument, get on stage or practice your moves on the dance floor. This is a perfect spot for your little one to move and 
groove. Suggested donation $7.
