Weekday Adventures (a little late!)

How is it already August?! Enjoy the remainder of the summer with your Bambinos. Each night there are live concerts and/or outdoor movies, all of which are free. Make sure to find one perfect for your family before summer is over. You can beat the heat this week in the water or at one of the fun events listed below! Keep in mind DC Library has so many events throughout the week for babies, toddlers and teenagers too.

Tuesday:

9:30am and 10:15am: Baby Storytime at Noyes Library
(10237 Carroll Place Kensington, MD 20895)
This is a storytime geared toward babies and toddlers. Recommended ages are newborn to 18 months. Join us as we sing songs,read books and enjoy fingerplays. Storytime is available on a first come first serve basis. Due to space we are limited to the fist 20 parent/baby pairs.

10:00am: Samba Baby at Bloombars
(3222 11th St NW, Washington, DC. 20010)
It’s never too early to learn the infectious dance of the world’s 5th largest country and there’s no better teacher then Zezeh Zax– a dancer, professional performer of Brazilian samba and founder of the ZEZEH BRAZIL Dance Troupe. Get your baby movin and groovin!

10:30am: KanKouran West African Dance Company at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods
(1551 Trap Rd. Vienna, VA. 22182)
Experience the sights and sounds of West African culture with DC’s premier dance company. With colorful costumes and dynamic drumming, these spirited performers deliver captivating choreography with an inspirational message. Tickets $8.

 

Wednesday:

10:30am: Sugar Free Allstars at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods
(1551 Trap Rd. Vienna, VA. 22182)
Get rready to pack the dance floor with Sugar Free Allstars! Listed as one of TIME magazine’s “Stars of Kindie Rock,” this bowtie-clad super duo combines elements of funk, soul, and rock ’n’ roll to have your heads bobbin’ and hips shakin’. Tickets $8.

4:00pm: Whole Foods Half Pint Kids Club: Veggie Creatures
(Whole Foods Market Friendship Heights Cafe)
Veggies don’t have to be such a serious matter! Today we’ll use a variety of fresh veggies to create awesome (and tasty!) veggie creatures. This class is perfect for kids 2 – 5. Snacks will be made and served.  Sign up at Customer Service for this free event.

 

Thursday:

10:00am: Summerfest Family Theatre- Josh & The Jamtones
(121 N. Bentz Street, Frederick, MD 21701)
Summerfest Family Theatre has brought high-quality entertainment to Frederick youngsters for over sixteen years! The Boston-based outfit is an interactive/ultra-powered live band musical explosion guaranteed to get crowds of any age moving their bodies and singing along. The Jamtones have opened for massively popular children’s band The Wiggles & performed live at notable events such as Life is Good Fest (Dave Matthews, Yo Gabba Gabba, the Roots), Kindiefest at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Boston’s Earthfest. FREE!

10:00am: Harambe at Bloombars

Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

10:30am: Jake the Magician at Jammin Java
(227 Maple Ave E Vienna, VA 22180)
Jake has 25 years of experience at entertaining audiences. He has performed at a wide variety of functions in numerous settings – including A Taste of D.C. in Washington, DC – and was featured on Channel 4 News. His special style of comedy magic amazes and delights audiences of all ages – from the very young to the very old. Jake’s show includes comedy, magic with audience participation and balloon sculpture

10:30am: Mil’s Trills at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods

Featured on First Lady Michelle Obama’s Partnership for a Healthy America and Hip Hop Public Health’s children’s album, Mil’s Trills is a fun musical group that is sure to get you moving. Come celebrate family, friends, and fun with Amelia, her electric ukulele, and her rockin’ band, as she takes you on a rhythmic expedition. Tickets $10.

 

Friday:

10:00am: Sciencetellers “Super Heroes”
(10237 Carroll Place Kensington, MD 20895)
Enjoy this spectacular adventure and be swept away to a place where truly ‘super’ heroes really do exist! Join us as we learn about everyday science throughout this exciting original heroic adventure. The story features incredible, interactive science experiments with pressure, air, gravity, potential energy, mass and much more! For children ages 5 and up. NOTE: Held during our CLOSED HOURS. This program is available on a first come first served basis. The first 70 people will receive a ticket to attend the program. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library Montgomery County, Inc.

10:00am: Songs, stories & puppets at Bloombars
(3222 11th St NW, Washington, DC. 20010)
30 minutes of storytelling, dancing, singing and entertainment just for kids under 5.

1:00pm-2:00pm: Splish-Splash, Drip, Plop at Meadowside Nature Center
(5100 Meadowside Ln., Rockville, MD)
Wade in the water to see what’s swimming, diving, and living in the stream. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet (for your safety, don’t wear flip-flops or backless sandals). Registration required.
