Rise + Rhyme is a weekly Busboys and Poets series for local stay-at-home parents and early rising families of all kinds! Featuring performances and stories for children ages 5 and under. This week Culture Queen will be there to perform and storytell.

As every family with youngsters in the DC area knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys: Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie. They have been making award-winning music for the whole family since 2005. Tickets are $5.

Come sing-along to your favorite songs. Grab a treat in the cafe afterwards or hang out reading books.
11:00am: Columbus Day Ceremony
(Union Station Plaza, Massachusetts Ave. & 1st St. Washington DC)
Washington, DC honors and celebrates the achievements of Christopher Columbus each year with a national wreath laying ceremony on Columbus Day. Embassies of Italy and Spain and the general public lay wreaths at the base of the Columbus Memorial Statue located at Union Station.
Tuesday-
10:00am: Tudor Tots: Fall Frolic

Tudor Place has enchanted young children for 200 years. Experience it yourself Tuesday mornings, as you meet to read, sing, and play in the gardens and historic spaces. This family-friendly program offers a new theme each week, from “adventurous animals” to “growing gardens” and more. Children will participate in interactive read-alouds, songs, and themed movements related to the week’s topic, sharing a tranquil setting with the grown-ups who care for them. Sign up for one class or all of the classes that run through November 25. Parents/caregivers remain with children.

Kids will find our “found” costumes and set pieces crafted from recycled materials pretty fabulous, too.

Do you have a tiny treasure in a snuggly? Looking for ways to get out of the house, and learn? Join us each Thursday for a 45-minute guided tour of the Conservatory. Each week will be a different exploration. This program is designed for parents and care providers who have a tiny one in a snuggly. Please note: Due to narrow paths and the nature of this program, they cannot support strollers or older siblings.

Join us for a hike and hunt through the woods. Learn how to use a GPS unit and spend the afternoon on a ghoulish geocaching adventure to hunt for Halloween tricks and treats throughout the woods of Meadowside. Bring water and be prepared to hike (long pants and sturdy shoes strongly recommended). If you don’t have a GPS unit, we’ll have units for families to share. All must register, but adults are free. Ages 8 and up $15.
2:00pm-4:00pm: Afternoon Aviators at College Park Aviation Museum

Afternoon Aviators is a weekly series for children ages five and up. Join us for fun hands-on aviation themed activities. Activities range from making your own paper airplane to playing a game of aviation bingo. This program is held every Friday from 2pm to 4pm and is free with regular museum admission.
4:00pm: Old School Pre-School Musical Foundations at Bloombars

Join renowned jazz vocalist and music educator Rochelle Rice on a music history journey traversing various genre’s from generation past to present. Parents and little ones learn about the lives and music of America’s greatest performers through interactive musical activities, dancing, singing, and storytelling.
