Weekend Picks

Kids Euro Festival begins this weekend and lasts through November 8. It’s like taking a trip to Europe – but you don’t need a passport! Kids Euro Festival is a two-week long festival of European arts and culture presenting more than 125 free activities to D.C. metro area children and their families. There are performances, concerts, workshops, movies, storytelling, and more… and it’s all brought to you by the 28 European Union Member States!

Be sure and check out local Orchards & Festivals as well as Halloween events happening this weekend.

 

Saturday-

9:00am-10:30am: Breakfast with the Bears at The Zoo
(3001 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington, DC 20008)
Bring your preschooler to the zoo for a picnic. Join us for a real teddy bear picnic! We’ll learn about the favorite foods of our three species of bears at the National Zoo then join them outside for a snack-time picnic! (Participants must bring their own snack.)  Zoo Classes use crafts, hands-on activities, and the Zoo’s animal collection to help your child learn about environmental conservation and life science while building important developmental and social skills. $28/child for FONZ members. $35/child for non-members. 2-3 year olds only with adult.  Pre-registration is required.

Halloween meets trucks! Enjoy spooktacular treats, pumpkin decorating, bounce house and many, many trucks.

10:30am: The Great Zucchini at Jammin Java
(227 Maple Ave E Vienna, VA 22180)
The Great Zucchini, Washington’s funniest and most magical PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh! Experience the excitement of the children when they get to learn a magic trick at the end of show! For over 12 years, The Great Zucchini has been entertaining young children as a magician and preschool teacher. He performs his hands-on, interactive magic shows to more that 250 groups a year. His experience, coupled with his gentle nature and wacky facial expressions, makes kids immediately feel comfortable and ready to laugh.

10:30am-11:15am: Saturday Song Circle at Imagination Stage
(4908 Auburn Avenue Bethesda, Maryland 20814)
You and your child are invited to a fun, interactive musical experience! An Early Childhood Teaching Artist explores a popular children’s book with your family through song and musical instruments, and you will receive a list of all the songs to practice at home. Activities in Saturday Song Circle are best for 1-3 year-olds but 4-5 year-old siblings and friends are also welcome to join in the fun. 5 Little Pumpkins is the story this weekend. $8 per person.

12:00pm-4:00pm: Fall Fair at Murch Elementary School
(4810 36th Street NW Washington, DC 20008)
Caos Obstacle Course, Classic Cake Walk, Games and Prizes, The Famous Used Book Sale, Snowcones, Popcorn and Chips, Live performance by Marsha Goodman-Wood, Armand’s Pizza Truck, BBQ, Bake Sale, Hair Coloring and Body Art, Rock Climbing Wall, College Hunks Dunk Tank and more.

2:00pm-7:00pm: Air and Scare at National Air and Space Museum (Virginia Location) 
See the spooky side of air and space at our annual Halloween event! Arrive in costume for safe indoor trick-or-treating, creepy crafts, spooky science experiments, and other Halloween-themed activities. The tiniest visitors can check out the Tot Zone to play dress-up and hear a story. Pose for a photo with your favorite Star Wars or Ghostbusters character. Air & Scare is fun for the whole family!

3:00pm-5:00pm: Rollingwood Neighborhood Halloween Party at The French School
Fun for the whole family! Moon bounce, face painting, crafts, food and much more. Cost is $20 for non-Rollingwood neighbors (no pre-registration for this).

4:00pm-8:00pm: Haunted Garage and Fall Festival at Oyster Adams School
(2801 Calvert Street NW)
Get ready for a family evening of friendly fright and ghoulish crafts!!  Oyster-Adams Bilingual School is hosting its 1st Annual Haunted Garage and Fall Festival, dates/times below.  No charge for entry!  Hold on to friends and loved ones as you walk through our Haunted Garage. We will have pumpkin decorating, candy skull decorating, food and costume contests, games, and more.

7:00pm-9:00pm: Haunted Hangar at College Park Aviation Museum

Sunday-

10:00am-10:45am: Sunday Fun-Day at Imagination Stage

We invite you and your child to bring your favorite stories to life through dramatic play activities, movement, music, and visual art. Each session you leave with a completed craft, as well as a Parent Pack to extend the experience at home. These popular workshops are themed around beloved children’s books. Activities in Sunday Fun-Day are most appropriate to 3-5 year-olds but 1-2 year-old siblings and friends are also welcome! Red Light, Green Light is the story this weekend. $8 per person.

2:30pm-5:00pm: Mitchell Park Annual Fall Fun Day
(23rd & S Street NW)
Bring your friends and family and show off your costumes! Some highlights are: grill manned by Jim Bell; crafts & games; moon bounce; acrobat; community table; DJ….and much more.
