Weekend Picks August 5-7

BrickFair LEGO is Saturday and Sunday at the Dulles Expo Center from 11:00am-4:00pm. Lego enthusiasts this is for you!

Peach Daze Fuzztival is Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am-6:00pm. Celebrate Peak Peach Picking season!  Enjoy the fruit in great food and drink at this full collaboration between Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm Brewing and Great Country Farms, all located in Bluemont, VA.

Howard County Fair begins today and runs through August 13 and is open from 8:00am-11:00pm. Admission is $5 for ages 10 and up, $2 for seniors and is free for kids under 10. Rides and games are extra. See the schedule for fun events throughout the week. Your family will have the opportunity to enjoy rides, watch a Demolition Derby or Rodeo, taste fair food and win prizes. Don’t miss the magic show and talent show,  pony rides or the kids and critters barn. The fair address is 2210 Fairground Road, West Friendship, MD.

68th Annual Fairfax County 4-H Fair and Carnival at Frying Pan Farm Park is also going on through August 7. Carnival rides, wagon and carousel rides, food trucks, live entertainment and more. 

Friday-

6:30pm-8:30pm: Concert (food, splashing, drinks) at Yards Park
(355 Water Street SE Washington DC 20003)
The free Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series is back for its 6th Season, this year on the Great Lawn of Yards Park! Every Friday night this summer, come to Yards Park to relax and enjoy the river view, fantastic bands, food and beverage, and a large variety of great restaurants within a 5-minute walk from the park. Family-friendly lyrics and grassy open space make this an enjoyable event for adults and kids alike.

8:00pm: Union Market Drive-In: Ratatouille
(1309 5th Street NE  Washington, District of Columbia 20002)
The Union Market Drive-In is back! Join us on the first Friday of every month in July through October! The lot will open at 6:00pm and the movie begins at 8:00pm. There is a $10 parking fee, but the event is free for walkers/bikers. For Tickets, click here.

8:00pm: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert at Strathmore
(5301 Tuckerman Ln., Bethesda, MD)
There is also a 3:00pm show on Saturday in Baltimore. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will present Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone™ in Concert. The concert features a live symphony orchestra performing, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Relive the magic of the film in HD on a giant screen while hearing the orchestra perform John Williams’ unforgettable score.

Saturday-

9:30am AND 10:30am: Harambee at Bloombars

Five years and more than 700 shows later, Harambee @BloomBars has become a Washington DC institution and a cultural/moral compass for thousands of parents and youth. In Swahili, Harambe means “All pull together.” At BloomBars, Harambe is the practice of hope, possibility and compassion – basically, all the things that happen when we all come together.

10:30am: Brady Rymer and The Little Bands that Could at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods

Top off the season with Grammy-nominated artist, Brady Rymer, as he performs rootsy rock ‘n’ roll music that expresses the warmth, fun, and positive spirit of the family experience. Tickets are $12 and Brady Rymer is closing the Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods season so don’t miss it!

4:30pm-5:15pm: Tots & Tykes Yoga at Lemon Tree
(2100 New Hampshire Avenue, NW Washington, DC, 20009)
Lemon Tree will be hosting Angelyn Shapiro of New Beginnings Yoga. This class is for crawlers through age 4. Please click the link below for more information and to sign up! Caregivers are required to attend and encouraged to participate. No yoga mat or previous experience needed.

Celebrate Busy Bees 1st Birthday with carnival games, snacks, sweets, raffles, prizes, and more. Buy tickets online for a 2 hour time frame.

11:00am-12:00pm: Family Yoga at Bloombars

This family class will explore the practice of yoga through music, dance, relaxation and play. Families will have the chance to connect in a meaningful and fun way, while also giving each family member the chance to breathe, stretch and relax. This community-based class will inspire connection and awareness in a nurturing and playful environment. Make the time to share mindful and heart-opening practices with your family, no matter the age or experience level. Come breathe, move and play with us every Sunday!

11:30am-1:30pm: DC Nibble + Squeak at Requin
(8296 Glass Alley  Fairfax, VA)
Nibble+squeak hosts food events for babies (and their caretakers) across the world!   Our mission is to get new parents out, doing the things they loved to do pre-kids — in our case, eating! Requin is a French Mediterranean concept that will serve a 3 course meal.

11:30am: Pixar Shorts at National Gallery of Art
(6th and Constitution NW)
Celebrate 30 years of animated shorts from Pixar Animation Studios.  Beginning with the delightful Luxo Jr. (John Lasseter, 1986), the first computer-animated film nominated for an Academy Award, this collection of shorts showcases Pixar’s contributions to the art of filmmaking. The series will include hilarious favorites: For the Birds (Ralph Eggleston, 2001), Mike’s New Car (Pete Docter and Roger Gould, 2003), and One Man Band (Mark Andrews and Andrew Jimenez, 2006). Approximately 45 minutes.

3:30pm-4:15pm: Sunday Funday at Imagination Stage

We invite you and your child to celebrate summer with us as we bring your favorite stories to life through dramatic play activities, movement, music, and visual art. Each session you leave with a special take-home item we used or created that day, as well as a Parent Pack to extend the experience at home. 6:00pm: Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor: Cars

Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars—and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor.
