Weekend Picks: Festival Cubed, Sample Fall Classes and Rock Out

Hope everyone enjoyed a short week and the kids are off to a good start of school. Beltway Bambinos is wrapping up another amazing beach week and will sadly return to reality tomorrow.

DC splash and pools are open through this weekend! And we thought water fun was gone come Labor Day. 

Saturday-

7:00am-4:30pm: ChalkFest at Reston Town Center 
(Reston Town Center: Market Street, between Library Street and Presidents Street)
ChalkFest At Reston Town Center is presented by the Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR) and Reston Town Center. All are invited to create chalk drawings on Market Street. The event is open to professional artists, amateurs, businesses, families, and kids of all ages. There will be prizes for professional artists, amateurs, families and kids, in addition to the “Audience Choice Award”.

9:00am-1:00pm: Sample Classes at Imagination Stage
(4908 Auburn Ave, Bethesda, MD. 20814)
Try a sample class on us! Get an up-close and personal taste of what classes are like at Imagination Stage! (We promise you’ll have a blast!) Sample classes are about 20 minutes in length. Parents are encouraged to join the samplers for children in grades 3 or younger. Parents of children in grades 4 or older are welcome to observe the sampler, but not required.  Please note that this is NOT a drop-off event. Children MUST be accompanied by a caregiver.

10:00am-7:00pm: Maryland Renaissance Festival 
Take a time machine back to medieval times. With plenty of entertainment, including music, joisting, puppetry, pony rides and so much more. Your children will see people dressed up in 16th century outfits. Dress like a knight and come any weekend through October 17.

10:30am-11:30am: Uno, Dos, Tres Con Andres at FNDTN
(3762 Howard Ave., Kensington, MD)
¡Uno, Dos, Tres con Andrés! is an interactive children’s show celebrating Spanish language and Latin American culture. Children sing, shake, and sound out rhythms while trying regional Latin dances and practicing Spanish words. Come dance to La Bamba, discover the colors in Spanish, and meet friends of all kinds, including an iguana named Juana! $6 Advanced/$8 Door

10:30am: Mr. Gabe and the Circle Time All-Stars at Jammin Java
(227 Maple Ave E, Vienna, VA 22180)
Mr. Gabe and his band, the Circle Time All-Stars, featuring Holly Montgomery on bass and Chelle Fulk on violin, have been delighting kids and their grown-ups throughout the Washington, DC area with a fun and interactive musical repertoire that includes traditional children’s songs, family-friendly pop classics and Mr. Gabe’s award-winning originals. $8 tickets or $25 for 4 pack

11:00am-5:00pm: All Aboard Kensington
(3710 Mitchell Street, Kensington, MD- Kensington Armory/Town Hall)
The Train Show has become a tradition in just a few short years so come and see the massive track  at Town Hall, and enjoy the entertainment and food. $5 adults; $2 children; $10 family. Benefiting the Noyes Children’s Library Foundation and the Kensington Historical Society.

11:00am-5:00pm: DCMeet Market: Back to School
(15th and P St NW)
Celebrate Back-t0-School with a DC Library popup, arts and crafts, pig roast and child friendly music.

1:00pm-7:00pm: Rosslyn Jazz Festival
(1300 Lee Hwy- Gateway Park)

Sunday-

12:00pm: Paw Paw Festival at Meadowside Nature Center

It’s time to get your paws on some pawpaws! Meadowside will be celebrating this delightful native fruit with music, storytelling, crafts, games, raptor talks, expert advice on pawpaw cultivation, and most importantly…a pawpaw tasting station. This year, we will have pawpaw fruit for purchase! No registration required. Children and adults must pay.

1:35pm: Washington Nats host the Phillies
(1500 South Capitol St SE, Washington, DC 20003)
Kids Run the Show and Kids Run the Bases. Kids ages 4-12 are invited to run the bases on the field immediately following the game, field conditions permitting.
