Weekend Picks: Spiderman, Valentine’s Day & Disco around DC

Lots to do on Saturday, not sure how we will choose what to do. Enjoy the weekend with your bambino(s). As always let us know how your experiences were or other places you suggest we add to our top Picks for the weekend or weekdays!

Saturday–

10:30 am (Doors open at 10:00am)– GIGS & Kidzbill Present Junior Jams: ¡Uno, Dos, Tres con Andrés!
(FNDTN Gallery & Liveroom – 3762 Howard Ave. Kensington, Md. 20895)
Foundation is a boutique art gallery and intimate live music venue. Haven’t had a chance to see Andrés yet? Seen him and your kids loved him? He’s playing here (and there’s plenty of parking which is a plus). Uno, Dos, Tres con Andrés! is an interactive children’s show celebrating Spanish language and Latin American culture. Children sing, shake, and sound out rhythms while trying regional Latin dances and practicing Spanish words. $6 Advance/$8 At Door

10:30am- Superhero Training at Barstons Child’s Play by Superheroes of Southern Maryland
(5536 Connecticut Avenue NW, DC 20015)
Dress up and bring a camera to document the Free event. Your superhero in training will love meeting Batman and Spiderman while learning some tricks of the trade.

10:30am, 12:30pm & 2:30pm- Jammin Java presents SteveSongs
(227 Maple Ave, Vienna, Va. 22180)
PBS and one of most popular kids performers. He’s been writing and performing for 15 years and has been hosting his show on PBS for eight years. His critically acclaimed songs are catchy and fun. Tickets are $15.

10:30am- Family Fiesta at El Tamarindo
(1785 Florida Ave NW Washington, DC 20009)
The Singing Lizard will be performing her unique Electro-Kindie style and is sure to have kids and adults dancing and singing with joy! Stay after the show for El Tamarindo’s delicious food and watch the Olympics on TV.  Children of all ages will enjoy. $5 per child.

10:30am and 1:30pm- Tour and Workshop at Tudor Place Historic House and Garden
(1644 31st Street, NW Washington, DC , DC 20007)
Tour the historic mansion in search of Valentine’s Day greetings from long ago. Children then design their own Valentines to take home, drawing artistic inspiration from historic cards in the Tudor Place Archive. Non-member $10/Member $5. Ages 5 and up.

12:00pm-4:00pm- Valentine’s Day Card Workshop at The National Postal Museum
(2 Massachusetts Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002– Atrium on the level 1)
Love is in the details at the annual Valentine’s Day Card Workshop at the National Postal Museum. Create heart-felt handmade cards and visit the museum’s stamp store to send the cards to your loved ones with a special Postal Museum postmark. Free!

Sunday–

11:00am-1:30pm Baby Loves Disco at The Rock n Roll Hotel
(1353 H St NE, Washington, DC 20002)
From the people who bring us the family dance party with great DJ’s and dancers deliver a Valentine’s party to celebrate Family Love. Many lovely activities are planned; make your own valentine’s cards, chocolate treats, dance lessons, crafts, mommy and daddy slow dances, contests, plenty of kid approved food and cash bar for non-driving parents.  Buy tickets here Recommended for kids 6months-7 years old (non-walkers are free) $18/pp

11:30am- Creative Adventures at the National Gallery of Art (Also showing 10:30am on Saturday)
(Between 3rd and 9th St NW along Constitution Ave)
Children’s Film Program presents a series of animated films that allows your child to extend their imagination and let the ordinary become extraordinary. Ages 7 and up, runs 60minutes and is free.

1:30pm and 4:00pm- Rumpelstiltskin at Imagination Stage
(4908 Auburn Ave. Bethesda, Md. 20814)
Watch the classic story of how a girl turns straw into gold unfold before your eyes. $12-35 tickets and is recommended for ages 5-10. Playing through March 16.

    Thanks for this list, someone was just telling me how cool the Christmas card workshop was at the Postal Museum. She made it sound so cool that I was kind of bummed to have missed it. I will have to check this one out!
