Parents Night Out on Valentine’s Day

February 5, 2020

Have a night with your person! Bring your kiddos ages 5 and up to Badlands for a night of fun for them, and a night of romance (or blissful nothingness) for you. Bring them by between 4:00pm and 5:00pm and pickup between 8:00pm and 9:00pm for a four hour window that works best for you. Badlands will be ready for your little cupids and will have special programming and a pizza party to make it a fun and festive night! Make sure and reserve your spot now.

Friday Nite Rox at Earth Treks on February 14th gives kids ages 6-12 a fun night of climbing adventure- 2.5 hours that is from 6:30pm-9:00pm and parents enjoy a night out on the town- what could be more perfect! Activities include vertical games, age appropriate basic skills instruction, and tons of climbing, all under the supervision of our qualified instructors. No experience is necessary.

Every month parents can drop kids off at BOLT and have an evening to themselves, secure in the knowledge that their children are having fun, getting exercise, and making friends in a safe place. This month it will take place on February 14th for kids 5 and up. They will have a blast with open gym play time, pizza dinner (must order pizza separately), popcorn and watching an appropriate movie in the gym. Pickup is promptly at 9:00pm.

Parents’ night out is at My Gym Bethesda on February 14th for a Valentine’s Day Dance Party! Drop your kids off for three hours of nonstop action from 6:00pm-9:00pm. They will enjoy fitness games, active play, pizza and fun! Bambinos ages 3-10 are welcomed.

What about a romantic dinner with your Valentine while your kid is having an active and awesome time? Busy Bees Chevy Chase is the place to send your Bambino on February 14th from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Your little one will be active and walk away feeling funtastic after moving, spinning, running and jumping. Consider bringing them in their PJs, and they’ll be ready for bed when you come and get them!

What about a romantic dinner with your Valentine while your kid is having an active and awesome time? Head to Busy Bees Falls Church on February 14th from 6:00pm-9:00pm and drop the Bambinos off! Your little one will be active and walk away feeling funtastic after moving, spinning, running and jumping. Consider bringing them in their PJs, and they’ll be ready for bed when you come and get them!

Drop-off your little ones at Elemeno to enjoy happy hour or a date night on your own! This drop-off service is available from 6:00pm-8:00pm on February 14 and is for children 18mo to 5 years old. They will have activities and will show a movie for those kiddos who prefer to settle down for a quiet time.

MoBu Kids is pleased to offer parents’ night out for potty trained children ages 3-12 years old. Let your children come play February 14th from 6:00pm-9:00pm for a special Valentine’s Day party! The evening with your kids includes dinner, free play in the custom play studio, a movie, craft, and tons of fun!

Parents night out = kids night out too!

These parent’s night out hot spots will keep your Bambinos entertained and happy! Skip the sitter and take them to one of these fun favorites. Have a favorite PNO place we didn’t list? Let us know in the comments.

Dynamite Gym
Giving parents the opportunity to have a night to themselves, while knowing that their kids are having fun, getting exercise and making friends! Head to Dynamite the second Sunday of every month from 6:00pm-9:00pm. There will be open gym, popcorn, and a family-friendly movie. Children ages 3.5 and up (potty trained) are welcome. Currently enrolled Dynamite students will get a discounted rate and discounts are offered for pre-registering.

Earth Treks
Kids ages 6-12 get a fun night of climbing adventure (2.5 hours!) and parents enjoy a night out on the town every Friday night- what could be more perfect! Activities include vertical games, age appropriate basic skills instruction, and tons of climbing, all under the supervision of our qualified instructors. No experience is necessary. Climbing shoes, as well as a harness and necessary hardware, are included.

Badlands
Tired of babysitters canceling last minute? Let the kids spend their evening at Badlands instead while you enjoy a much needed date night (or uninterrupted grocery run)! Every Saturday from 4:00pm-9:00pm.
Also, look into Nerf Night– it’s not a drop-off but a fun night for kids & parents.

Busy Bees
So you want to have some uninterrupted conversations over dinner, or go to the movies but don’t have a sitter? Well, now you have the A-Team of Busy Bees! They will keep your kids entertained in the coolest playground, feed them and have them ready for a great night sleep. Space is limited, so go on and reserve your spot today. You know you deserve a lil’ break! Bonus: your kids will have a blast, guaranteed! Each month they release a new date, so keep checking their site.

Weekend Picks in and around Washington, DC

August 24, 2018

Maryland Renaissance Festival takes place on weekends from August 26-October21, 2018. The Rent Fest will be full of jousting while serving up lots of turkey legs! Take a time machine back to medieval times where you’ll see wizards, knights and wenches. With plenty of entertainment, including music, jousting, mazes, puppetry, pony rides, a huge pirate playground and so much more. Your children will see people dressed up in 16th century outfits and will be begging to participate while staring in awe. Dress like a knight and come participate or just watch! This weekend is the only time they offer kids entry as FREE.

August 23-26 Comcast Outdoor Film Festival returns to Strathmore this summer! Join us on the lawn for FOUR nights of free family favorite flicks benefiting the NIH Children’s Charities. August 24: Black Panther, August 25: The Lion King, August 26: Wonder Woman. Concessions begin at 7:30pm. Movie will begin at dusk (approximately 8:30pm). Event is FREE!

The Jazz in the Garden Series begins its 18th season in May. The free concert series features jazz artists performing a wide variety of styles—Traditional New Orleans jazz, blues, swing, Ska, Funk, Pan-Caribbean salsa, boogaloo, Go-go, and more—every Friday evenings in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. on The Square in Rockville Town Square. Music ranges from 80’s and 90’s cover bands, funk and soul, roots rock blues and southern rock.

6:00pm-9:00pm: Parents Night Out at Busy Bees Falls Church

We are not a sit down and watch a video kinda place! 7:00pm-9:00pm: The Yards Park Friday Night Concert Series
The free Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series is back for its 8th Season. Every Friday night this summer, come to Yards Park to relax and enjoy the river view, fantastic bands, food and beverage, and a large variety of great restaurants within a few minutes walk from the park. Family-friendly lyrics and grassy open space make this an enjoyable event for adults and kids alike.

11:30am-3:00pm: Summer in the City Family Day at Smithsonian American Art Museum
Escape the heat and still play in the sun! Come and enjoy all your favorite summertime games, a museum scavenger hunt, and crafts. If you are looking for something more low-key, put on a lei and listen to relaxing island music. Enjoy refreshing summer treats from the Courtyard Café.

12:00pm-6:00pm: 17th Street Festival
The festival includes a wide variety of street vendors, including artists, makers, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, kids’ activities and entertainment – rain or shine. The festival will include more than 60 artists and makers selling everything from oil paintings to pottery, jewelry to cigars, and every creative item in between. Other vendors include area nonprofit organizations, local entrepreneurs, and the Kids Zone will have an inflatable slide and vendors. Unique to the 17th Street Festival will be an all day “traveling” entertainment on the street, including a funk band, flamenco dancers with guitar, mariachi band, a Chinese lion dancer, and a New Orleans jazz band. Taking place in the 1500-1600 blocks of 17th Street, NW.

12:00pm-6:00pm: Community Day at Arena Stage
Celebrate Arena’s 2018/19 season with a great day full of activities including live music, face painting, dance performances, storytelling, delicious cuisine from Southwest restaurants and much, much more!  Enjoy a pony ride with Ponies Unlimited.  Meet, adopt and go home with your new best friend!  The Humane Rescue Alliance’s mobile adoption vehicle will be onsite with adoptable cats and dogs. This event is completely FREE to the public and great for all ages!

10:00am-12:00pm: Red Panda Art: Slime and other concoctions
Workshops will include open art exploration, sensory stations, a related story, and a guided project. Each workshop is $30/child.

6:00pm: KIDZ BOP Live at Wolf Trap
KIDZ BOP Live 2018 is the ultimate family concert experience, “sung by kids for kids.” The KIDZ BOP Kids headline this new show, performing some of today’s biggest hit songs that have also kept them at the top of the US Kids charts for over 15 years.

Sunday

10:00am-11:00am: Nous Bloombars
The Alliance Francaise is very proud to continue its partnership with BloomBars, bringing back a weekly music program for children. Nous Bloomons is a celebration of French language and culture through song and dance, led by Achille Ango. Achille grew up in Cameroon (Central West Africa). After graduating from High School, he went to France where he lived for seven years studying and playing music. He has taught French to children, and played music with various bands in the Washington area for more than 20 years. He now teaches French in an immersion school using music as a vehicle. If you want to have fun, dance, jump and sing “à tue-tête”, join us at BloomBars! $7 suggested donation per child. $3 per adult.

6:00pm: Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor
Nothing says summer like an evening under the stars—and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor. Pack your picnic blankets, grab food to go from one of our delicious dining establishments, and meet us at the Plaza’s big screen for a FREE evening of fun for all ages! Movie: Annie 2014

Saturday & Sunday The Kennedy Center presents NSO Music for Young Audiences: String Thing. A “silent” comedic tag-team—bassist Paul DeNola and violinist Heather LeDoux Green—takes a break from the NSO to introduce young audiences to some of the greatest music ever written in a hilarious program of music and mayhem. Most enjoyed by age 3 and up. All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket. Most enjoyed by kids ages 3+. Come early for a Musical Instrument “Petting Zoo” -Starting one hour before the concert, hands-on activities let children get up close with the instruments they’ll see played on the stage.

Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt premieres at Adventure Theatre on Friday and plays through June 3, 2018. Third grade has put Judy Moody in a mood. She’s got to figure out what to include in her “Me” collage, and her know-it-all little brother Stink keeps getting in the way. When the Moody family drops anchor on “Artichoke” Island, they meet Cap’n Weevil with a secret treasure map, launching them on a mad dash across the island in search of gold. But they’re not the only salty dogs lookin’ for loot! Can Judy Moody and Stink outwit their competition in time? Will Judy finish her project? Come aboard as we launch this world premiere and find out!

11:00am-3:00pm: Designing for Our Changing World with Discover-E at the National Building Museum
Construct the perfect city for our changing world out of recyclables and display it in the Great Hall. Learn from the 2018 National Future City Competition winning team from Edlin, Virgina as they present their award winning designs and share how they learned to consider the needs of all citizens, including our oldest residents. This event does not require an RSVP.

9:00am-10:30am: Splish, Splash Sea Lion at the National Zoo
Bring your young animal lover to the Zoo this weekend for “Splish, Splash Sea Lion,”. Friends of the National Zoo preschool classes are designed for children ages 3-5 to discover a whole new view of the National Zoo. “Adult-and-me” format classes use interactive learning stations, hands-on activities and crafts, Nature Play, and exciting Zoo Walks to engage your child’s sense of wonder and curiosity about wildlife and the natural world.  Pre-registration is required. $28/child for FONZ members. $35/child for non-members. Registration fee covers one child with adult.

9:00am-4:00pm: Earth Day Festival at Brookside Gardens
Brookside Gardens to celebrate Earth Day and learn ways to keep it healthy.This festival offers something for everyone: a green craft fair, a plant sale featuring natives, environmental action area, family activities, interactive drum circles and more. This year we’ll have family activities and educational vendors that will help you discover how small changes in your everyday habits can make a big impact on improving our environment! 

12:00pm-4:00pm: Earth Day Plant Sale & Picnic at Tudor Place
The annual Plant Sale will feature heirloom and native sun to shade perennials for your garden, as well as tropical and house plants. New this year: herbs and other edible plants. Your Plant Sale purchases support conservation and education at Tudor Place. Bring your own picnic and blanket. See you rain or shine!

12:00pm: Shakespeare’s Birthday at Folger Shakespeare Library
Join the Folger for this beloved annual tradition, as we celebrate the birthday of the Bard with a day full of festivities. From Shakespeare performances to stage combat demonstrations to Elizabethan crafts, there’s something for everyone—including birthday cake!

1:00pm: Kite Day at Strathmore
Grab your kites and head to Strathmore for a day of fun and spectacle! Fly your own kite and watch amazing demonstrations, including outdoor choreographed team flying and indoor flying set to live music. Picnic, toss a frisbee, and enjoy the afternoon with family, then join us for an amazing performance of Air Play in the Concert Hall  (tickets to Air Play can be purchased here). But Crane Truck is getting cranky, Cement Mixer takes too long with bath time, and Dump Truck just isn’t sleepy! Excavator and Bulldozer find that preparing for bed is a job in itself! Will they ever get some shut-eye before tomorrow’s day of work? A world premiere musical based upon the New York Times best-selling picture book about construction vehicles by author Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld demonstrates the importance of teamwork, follow-through, hard work, and bedtime rituals. Founded in 2004, the Bay Area Children’s Theatre works to enrich children’s lives, inspire their imagination, and introduce them to lifelong enjoyment of theater. Recommended for ages 3–8; Pre-K–Grade 3.

4:00pm: Air Play at Strathmore
Ride the wind and dream with Air Play, a modern spectacle that brings to life the very air we breathe. Perfect for families, Air Play’s flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons, giant kites, and the biggest snow globe you’ve ever seen will make you gasp in wonder and laugh until it hurts. This circus-style adventure tells the story of two siblings journeying through a surreal land of air, transforming the ordinary into objects of uncommon beauty. Fabrics dance in the wind, balloons have a mind of their own, confetti become the night sky, and an enormous canopy of hovering silk forever alters their future. Recommended ages 5+.

Rest assured: Your little one will be Active and walk away feeling Funtastic after moving, spinning, running and jumping with our A-Team!  Pssst… a solid night sleep? Yes please! Pizza meals will be provided for the kids. Consider bringing them in their PJs, and they’ll be ready for bed when you come and get them!
